Introduction

Transforming mental health support through collaboration

The Training Programme on the Multidisciplinary Approach to Mental Health is a structured capacity-building initiative aimed at professionals from health, education, social work, and the justice sector. This training is part of the EU-PROMENS initiative, contributing to a broader European effort to strengthen mental health systems through collaboration and capacity building.

Visit our programme home page for more information about EU-PROMENS.

The national multidisciplinary training programme is organised in partnership with Institute of Mental Health (IMH) at Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU).

The Ukrainian Catholic University is committed to the holistic development of the individual and to preparing leaders who will shape the country’s future. The Institute of Mental Health, as part of the broader UCU community, promotes mental health and human development by disseminating high-quality, evidence-based knowledge; implementing educational programs for mental health professionals, service users and their families; and offering a variety of initiatives aimed at personal growth and psychological well-being for a wide audience.

Why this training?

This training programme is designed as a practical, skills-based learning experience that goes beyond theory.

Over the course of the training, you will:

  • work through real cases,

  • practise key competencies,

  • and develop strategies you can apply directly in your professional context.

The training brings together participants from across the health, education, social work, and justice sectors. By engaging in joint exercises and discussions, you will gain not only new knowledge, but also new professional relations and a deeper understanding of how your role connects with others in building integrated, person-centred mental health support.

What makes this training special is its focus on:

  • Practical competence development – strengthening skills such as active listening, de-escalation, risk assessment, referral, and system navigation.

  • Cross-sector collaboration – learning how to work effectively across professional boundaries and build stronger, more coordinated pathways of care.

  • Networking and exchange – connecting with colleagues from diverse fields, sharing experiences, and building professional relationships that last beyond the training.

By the end of the training, you will leave with:

  • A set of concrete skills that you can immediately integrate into your daily work.

  • A clearer understanding of the different roles and responsibilities within multidisciplinary mental health support.

  • A network of professionals committed to advancing person-centred, recovery-oriented practice in their own organisations and communities.

  • A certificate of attendance, bearing the EU Commission logo, issued by EU-PROMENS and the hosting institution.

Who should attend?

  • Health Professionals – doctors, nurses, allied health workers
  • Mental Health Professionals – psychiatrists, psychologists, counsellors, therapists
  • Social Workers – in social care contexts
  • Education Professionals – teachers, counsellors, school leaders
  • Justice Sector Workers – law enforcement, detention centres, juvenile justice
  • Cross-Sectoral Professionals – community and interdisciplinary staff
  • Non-Clinical Mental Health Workers – peer support workers, community volunteers

  • Mental health literacy: understanding mental health, risk factors, and intervention strategies.
  • Risk assessment and identification: how to evaluate mental health concerns and navigate support systems.
  • Referrals and system navigation: learn how to guide individuals through complex mental health services.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration: working effectively with professionals from different sectors.
